Personal Background

David is a partner with McKercher LLP.  He is Chair of the Labour, Employment, and Human Rights Practice Group. He was honoured in 2014 with a Queen's Counsel appointment.

David has an extensive practice in labour law, human rights, and administrative law.  He advises employers, including multi-bargaining unit employers, in labour and employment matters such as labour relations dispute resolution, collective bargaining, mediation, strikes, labour standards, human rights, occupational health and safety, privacy and workers' compensation.  He defends the interests of employers in a variety of forums, including rights and interest arbitrations, the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board, the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, OH&S investigations and appeals, and the Workers' Compensation Board.   He has experience in all levels of court in Saskatchewan and has appeared in the Supreme Court of Canada.

David also has a significant education law practice.  He provides his higher education clients with advice in areas such as governance, student policies, student discipline and appeals, labour law, corporate law, privacy, access to information, intellectual property, and human rights.

David graduated from the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan (LL.B.) in 1999 with Great Distinction.  He earned his Bachelor of Arts (Philosophy), with Great Distinction, from St. Thomas More College, University of Saskatchewan.  He received the Fraser Milner Prize in Business Organizations in 1999.  He is a member of the Golden Key Honours Society.  David was on the faculty of the College of Law, University of Saskatchewan in 2001-2002, where he taught Contracts and Torts classes.  He was appointed Assistant Commission Counsel to the Commission of Inquiry into Matters Relating to the Death of Neil Stonechild in 2002. 

David is a member of the Pension Benefits Section of Ontario Bar Association and a member of the Canadian Bar Association.  He is the President of the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Saskatchewan Branch and serves on the National Board of Directors for the Kidney Foundation of Canada.  David is on the Board of Directors of the St. Thomas More Lawyers' Guild of Saskatoon Inc.  He is on the Executive Committee of McKercher LLP and is the Pro Bono Coordinator for McKercher LLP.  He serves on the Professional and Community Advisory Board of Community Legal Assistance for Saskatoon Inner City Inc. (CLASSIC).  David is a member of the Diocesan finance council of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.  In 2012, David received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. He is the author of numerous law review articles, as well as articles published in McKercher's client newsletters.
