Teshome Gabre-Mariam Bokan is a counsellor and attorney-at-law based in Addis Ababa. He has represented and continues to represent both governmental and private clients in the mining and petroleum industries. In the public sector, he has advised the United Nations on matters pertaining to the revitalisation of the mining industry of many African nations. Part of the services included the drafting of new mining and investment codes. He also represents large mining companies in connection with various major projects.
Teshome was educated at the University College of Addis Ababa (BA, 1954); McGill University, Montreal, Canada (BCL, 1957); Institute of Air and Space Law, McGill University (1957 to 1958); Faculty of Comparative Law, International University of Comparative Sciences, Luxembourg (DiplÃ´me de Droit comparé, 1958); and the Economic Development Institute at the World Bank, Washington (1963 to 1964).
Teshome Gabre-Mariam Bokan Law Offices was established in 1982 by Teshome Gabre-Mariam Bokan, a former government minister who has worked with the IPC and the World Bank, and who has experience in intellectual property, contract negotiations and the granting of concession documents for natural resources, mining and petroleum.
