Personal Background

Gary Biesty is a partner of Mayer Brown JSM and heads up Mayer Brown JSM's office in Bangkok. He has extensive experience in acting for public and private company investors. For the last 11 years in Thailand, his focus has been on general commercial, corporate acquisitions and financing. His work involves issues relating to corporate finance, e-business, general commercial, hospitality & leisure in Thailand, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Cambodia. He also advised on the commercial aspects of intellectual property with a focus on infrastructure projects involving transportation, telecommunications and electronic money systems. As external Counsel for companies such as Dow Chemicals; Sara Lee; HSBC, and reporting at Board level on general corporate issues, Gary is familiar with all aspect of Thai labour and union law. During the economic difficulties in Asia in the last 4 to 5 years and with corporate rationalisation being very prominent Gary has also advised on labour issues within a restructuring environment.

Gary was named a leading lawyer in 2000 and 2001 for the area of corporate (mergers & acquisition) and banking finance by Chambers Global; in 2001 for the area of projects finance by Global Counsel. Gary Biesty is admitted as a solicitor in England and Hong Kong. He is Honorary Consul of Ireland to Thailand, a vice chairman of International Bar Association Asia Pacific Forum, an approved arbitrator of World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), a member of the Law Society of England & Wales and The Law Society of Hong Kong, and a member of the Financial Services Group of the British Embassy.
