Personal Background

Duncan Abate is a partner and head of Employment and Employee Benefits group of JSM.

He advises on all aspects of employment and employee benefits law and regulation, including discrimination, labour relations, termination of employment and the structure of employment relationships.

He has extensive experience in advising on the establishment, maintenance and restructuring of occupational retirement schemes and mandatory provident fund schemes, as well as related documentation and services.

He also advises on employment and retirement scheme issues in the context of regional and local corporate acquisitions, disposals and reorganizations.

Duncan was named a Highly Recommended Labour and Employment Benefits lawyer from 2002 to 2007 by PLC Which Lawyer? Yearbook.

Duncan Abate is admitted as a solicitor in England and Hong Kong. He is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Law Society Sub-committee on Occupational Retirement Schemes, an executive council member of the Employer's Federation of Hong Kong, a member of the Guidelines Committee advising the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority on the implementation of the Mandatory Provident Fund, a member of the MPF Schemes Operation Review Committee and a member of the Technical Committee of the Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association.
