"We're proud to be named one of the most diverse law firms," said Thomas W. Linn, CEO of Miller Canfield. "It's our long-standing goal to advance racial diversity within our firm. Law firms must reflect the complex, multicultural environments of the local, national, and global organizations we represent - as well as the communities in which we work and live."
The Minority Law Journal compiled its Diversity Scorecard from 244 of the largest and highest-grossing firms in the country. Firms were asked to count only their minority attorneys (African American, Native American, Hispanic, and Asian American) who are U.S. citizens. Partners, associates, special counsel, of counsel, and staff attorneys were included. That number was divided by the total number of attorneys at a firm who are U.S. citizens. The result is a percentage of a firm's U.S. citizen attorneys who are members of ethnic minorities. All figures are as of September 30, 2004.
