Personal Background
Professional Experience
Susan Eberle Stahlfeld is a partner and the leader of Miller Nash’s Employment Law and Labor Relations practice group. Susan represents employers in cases involving employment and labor law, such as discrimination, wrongful discharge, wage-and-hour rules, and employment torts litigation. She also regularly counsels employers on the various personnel issues they face day to day, and provides clients with training for supervisors and managers, and for all employees. Susan assists clients from many industries, including retail organizations, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, tribal entities, financial institutions, restaurants, and transportation-related companies.
Professional Activities
Susan is admitted to practice in Washington State, the United States District Courts for the Western and Eastern Districts of Washington, and the Ninth Circuit. She is a member of the Employment Law Committee of the Washington Defense Trial Lawyers Association, the Washington Healthcare Human Resources Association, the Labor section of the King County Bar Association, the Labor and Indian Law sections of the Washington State Bar Association, the Labor and Employment Law section of the American Bar Association, and the Federalist Society.
Susan is also a member of the Employment Law Advisory Committee of the Association of Washington Business. She participated in a Washington Human Rights Commission work group exploring possible changes to the definition of “disability” under Washington discrimination law. Susan is the Washington State representative of Employment Law Alliance, a world wide, comprehensive network of employment and labor law attorneys.
Susan is a contributing editor to Employment Discrimination Law (3d ed.), 2002 Cumulative Supplement, has authored numerous publications, and frequently gives presentations on employment law issues to both business leaders and attorney organizations.
Education
Susan earned her B.S., summa cum laude, at the University of Alabama, and her J.D. at the University of Virginia, where she was named a Dillard Fellow.
Presentations and Publications
Susan authored "Making the Workplace a Better Place," a chapter for Inside the Minds, Labor and Employment Litigation Strategies, published by Aspatore Books in 2007. She is a contributing editor to Employment Discrimination Law (3d ed.), 2002 Cumulative Supplement. She has authored numerous other publications, and frequently gives presentations on employment law issues to both business leaders and attorney organizations.
